What You Need to Know
Mandatory
- Bike (road or mountain bike) or strider in good working condition.
- Tricycles and training wheels are allowed for any age group, but NOT recommended.
- Helmet (with working chin strap)
- Swimsuit & towel
- Lifejackets allowed and available for all ages.
- Running shoes/closed toe shoes - no CROCS or sandals
- Athletic clothing: shorts/pants/skirt & shirt (race bib provided)
- Water bottle
- Hat
- Sunscreen
- Swim goggles
- Cycling and running routes include uneven gravel, grass and dirt areas. Participants must be comfortable/capable in these areas. Check out our age specific routes/maps below.

- Swim:
- Parent participation is mandatory for 5 - 6 years age group. Swimming will take place in the shallow/waist deep pool.
- Parent participation is optional for all other age groups. Swimming for 7 - 8 years , 9 - 10 years , & 11 - 13 years will take place in the 25m main pool.
- Lifejackets are available for all ages.

Frequently Asked Questions
- Participation ribbons will be provided to all participants.
- 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place ribbons will be awarded to our top finishers of each age group.
- There will also be door prizes available from some of our local event sponsors!

We will only be providing athletes with their final time (swim, bike, run combined). Parents are welcome to record their own child(ren)'s split times if they wish.

Yes! All City of Port Alberni staff have their Standard First-Aid CPR Level C & AED training. Our lifeguards will be on site at the pool for swimmers and there will be an additional first-aid tent with attendant for the running & biking portion of the event.

Please park in the parking lot at the front of Echo Aquatic Centre or Echo Centre.

You can pick up your race package on Friday May 2 from 3:00 - 5:00pm in the Echo Centre Cedar Rooms OR Saturday May 3 from 7:45 - 8:30am in the Echo Centre back parking lot (Kids Tri Headquarters).

Yes!
- 5 - 6 years and 7 - 8 years will meet behind Echo Centre at 8:30am.
- 9 - 10 years and 11 - 13 years racers will meet at 10:00am in the same location.
- All racers must attend this briefing.
- Additional questions can be answered at the registration tent with our race liaison.

Yes! Flagging tape, signage, barricades, cones and course marshals will be positioned around the entire course.

While this race is purely to introduce the sport of Triathlon to kids in a safe, supportive and fun environment, we encourage racers to try their best! We believe that anyone who participates is a winner 😊

Anything with two wheels! The bike course has a mix or trail, pavement, grass and gravel so please be prepared for various surfaces.

In the back parking lot behind Echo Centre will be the pool/bike/run transition zone. Racers can position their bikes and other gear here while they begin the first stage of the race in the pool. This is stationed next to our race headquarters and will have multiple staff there to assist and help keep eye on your bike/valuables, however the City of Port Alberni is not responsible for any lost, stolen or damaged items during the PA Kids Tri.

All participants will get a token for the first-aid station which will be supplied with nutrition filled items to keep you moving. We will also have a concession stand on site with various food/beverage items available for purchase.

Yes! You are welcome to cheer your athlete along each stage of the race. Please stay outside of the tape and watch for racers and other obstacles.
