We may look a little different but there is lots to see and we are ready to have guests explore our main floor gallery, the new Chief Dan George travelling exhibit and our re-stocked Museum Shop.
Our new hours are Wednesday to Saturday, 12 pm to 4 pm.
COVID-19 has changed the way we do a few things. You will need to wear your mask to visit the museum. One will be provided for you if you need one. You will be greeted at the door and may need to wait to come in. Guests can drop in, or reserve a time in advance, or be given a time to come back. Groups must book in advance.
At this time, we are not offering any on-site programming, but will be announcing some new virtual programming opportunities soon.
Please call us at 250-720-2863 to book a gallery time, arrange a group visit, or if you require any further information.
The Museum Shop is open. Click here for details!

You can visit us virtually as well! Click on the front door below to “enter” the Museum and enjoy our virtual tour!
“this is one of Vancouver Island’s best community museums” – Lonely Planet
Located in the heart of Port Alberni, the Alberni Valley Museum, reflects the richly diverse past of the area, with a large collection of artefacts linked to First Nations culture, local and industrial history, and folk art. The Alberni Valley Museum uses a unique Visible Storage system to make the entire collection available to the visitor at all times — along with the information, in easy to use catalogue books. The Museum presents an exciting and varied program of temporary exhibits each year, plus we offer challenging hands-on school programs and a range of public programs. There is something for everyone to discover, or rediscover, at this impressive local museum.
Wednesday to Saturday, 12 pm to 4 pm.
