Posted on Posted in Uncategorized

The City’s Parks, Recreation & Heritage Department is responsible for developing, maintaining and operating Port Alberni’s parks and recreation facilities. We are committed to ensuring the safety and wellbeing of our #playinpa participants.

The City is opening and operating our facilities in a way which ensures the safety of the public and staff while COVID-19 restrictions are in place. In accordance with public health guidelines, the City has:

  • Developed facility-specific safety plans, for the safety of both participants and staff;
  • Implemented a requirement of physical distancing of 2 metres between guests, participants and staff;
  • Increased the frequency of disinfection of high touch points;
  • Limited participant numbers in our facilities and programs.

Moving forward, we are committed to keeping our community informed regarding the delivery of services while COVID-19 restrictions are in place, and thank the public for their continued patience and understanding.

  1. Will we be able to change out of wet bathingsuits after swimming? I know lockers not available but will the changerooms be for this.??

    1. Thanks for your question!

      Once you arrive at the pool for your pre-registered session (, you will be asked COVID-19 screening questions at the door, and then be directed into the pool area, without going into the changerooms, so we are asking that you arrive with your swimsuit on under your street clothes. Or if you are attending the fitness studio, to arrive in your workout clothes ready to go. Please don’t arrive more than a couple minutes before your start time as there is no waiting inside the facility as we are limited in the number of people, including staff, that are permitted to be in the facility at any given time.

      After your swim or gym session, the changerooms will be available to dry off and change. Showers will not be available. There will be a maximum of 6 persons in each of the men’s or women’s changerooms, and 1 person per universal changeroom. We will permit a family from the same household to use the universal changeroom together.

      Wallet lockers in the lobby are available, but change room lockers will not be available so please leave valuables at home or lock them in your trunk before arriving at the facility. There will be available space for your belongings on the pool deck. Hot tub and sauna are not available.

      Changerooms will be available during the swim sessions for bathroom use.

      We thank everyone for their patience with ever-changing procedures while we move through these challenging times.
